The Mendham Family (1968-2022)

Celebrating 54 Years!

2022 marks the 54th year for the Mendham Family at Sunrise Lodge. The last couple of years have come with many unprecedented challenges. Covid, supply chain issues, and lack of employees has made life interesting to say the least.

In 1968 Dick and Elsie escaped to the Northwoods and purchased Sunrise. They grew up in Lower Michigan before moving to Naperville, IL where Phil and Linda were born. Sunrise has been a lot of hard work but has proven to be extremely rewarding on a professional and personal level. The entire Mendham family is truly blessed and grateful for the lasting friendships developed over the 54 years.

Dick is still doing well after his 2011 kidney transplant and 2020 heart surgery. He is extremely active in local Chambers of Commerce, organizing local festivals such as Maple Syrup Fest and Taste of Conover, as well as planting thousands of flowers around the Sunrise grounds. Elsie is doing fine and you will see her in the dining room pouring coffee, decorating the cabins, and helping wherever she is needed. When not busy, she enjoys staying active with church, choir, bridge, grandkids, and local charities.

Phil, graduated from UW-Stevens Point with a degree in Management and Marketing. In his free time, he is the President of the Frosty Snowmobile Club and is active in the Lac Vieux Desert Association and enjoys snowmobiling and fishing. Karen is from Wauwatosa and is the children’s librarian in Land O’ Lakes. She is the crafty one around Sunrise. Kate, 24, is a Bradley University graduate and is in her final semester at the St. Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis. David, 22, graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, IL with a Business and Marketing Analytics degree. Dave currently resides in St. Petersburg, FL. Joe, 20, is currently working at Headwaters Polaris in Watersmeet to pursue his passion in snowmobiling and motorsports. He will also be active in the day to day operations of Sunrise this season and beyond.

Linda, a graduate of UW-Stout, is responsible for all the delicious food at Sunrise. Without Linda, Sunrise would not be such a yummy place! When not working, Linda likes sports and visiting warm places. Alexa turned 23 at the end of 2021 and moved to Florida with her 2-year-old dog and she is loving the south. She misses the snowy weather but has gotten to visit a few times this winter. She recently wrapped up working in live production with the Green Bay Packers for the season and is enjoying her job in her new home. Carl, 20, is attending UW-Oshkosh and is seeking a degree in Physical Education. He enjoys fishing, ice fishing, basketball, soccer and snowboarding. Tony, 20, is receiving his associates degree in business this May from UW- Green Bay. He also enjoys fishing, ice fishing, basketball, soccer, and snowboarding. We look forward to having Carl and Tony around Sunrise this summer.

Vicki has her Master’s degree in Hotel Restaurant Management from UW-Stout and is the head of the Culinary Arts program at Nicolet College. Vicki is truly the “Dessert Master” and helps around Sunrise when time permits. She enjoys kayaking, biking and playing Cornhole. Kayla, 18, is attending UW-Eau Claire majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She’s on the Synchronized Figure Skating team, Towers Hall Council and NSSHLA. Her kitten, Maple, is also keeping her busy.

We have been fortunate to be able to work and play as a family (not always easy) and we think of you as part of our family as well. Stay well and we look forward to seeing you soon.
